Poetic Feet by Tunji Adeniyi-Jones is based on an oil on canvas painting from 2021, measuring 203.2 x 142.2 cm (80 x 56 in).
“I really want to show balance and grace, at all times, and a composure and a confidence. I don’t want these figures to feel like they have anything to prove. (…) I’m actively trying to negotiate that with what I’m seeing around me and then deal with that in the work and try to free the figures of that tension.” – Tunji Adeniyi-Jones
Tunji Adeniyi-Jones is a contemporary artist based in London, UK. He was born in 1988 in Lagos, Nigeria, and moved to England with his family at the age of 10. Adeniyi-Jones studied at Central Saint Martins and the Royal Academy of Arts, where he received his Masters in Fine Art in 2016. Adeniyi-Jones’ art is characterized by a unique blend of abstract and figurative elements. He often uses bold, vibrant colors and patterns to create dynamic compositions that are both playful and thought-provoking. His artworks have been described as “visual puzzles,” inviting viewers to engage with them on multiple levels. One of Adeniyi-Jones’ most notable series of artworks is titled “Symbiosis,” which explores the relationship between humans and nature. In these paintings, he juxtaposes natural forms with geometric shapes, blurring the boundaries between the organic and the man-made. The result is a striking and surreal visual language that challenges our perceptions of the world around us. In addition to his acclaimed painting practice, Adeniyi-Jones has also explored printmaking, where he extends his figurative-abstract compositions onto fine art prints. This medium allows him to experiment with a range of techniques, further diversifying his expression and reach. Tunji Adeniyi-Jones’ work has been exhibited in galleries and museums around the world, including the Saatchi Gallery in London and the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago. He has received numerous awards and accolades for his work, including the Royal Academy‘s prestigious Jack Goldhill Award for Painting in 2016.
