Peter Doig Prints

Peter Doig is one of the most celebrated and critically acclaimed painters of our time. His dreamlike paintings are characterized by their captivating combination of figurative depiction and techniques of abstract painting. The richly-lyered works of Peter Doig mostly depict people and architecture in landscapes of seductive beauty, often conveying melancholy, tranquility, solitude and tension at once. Doig states that he never intentionally sets out to be “deliberately sinister, but I always wanted to make paintings that told stories and suggested things.” He draws on imagery sourced from found photographs, films, as well as personal childhood memories, allowing him to blur personal experiences, pop culture and art history in his paintings. Despite drawing inspiration from photographs and films, Peter Doig never directly refers to them but employs them for their evocative presence. In 1984, an exhibition at Victoria Miro Gallery was short-listed for the prestigious Turner Prize. A major retrospective of Doig’s work was presented by Tate Britain in 2008. British, born 1959 in Edinburgh, United Kingdom, based in Trinidad.
