David Shrigley is an artist and illustrator, best known for his humorous cartoons. His flat, child-like compositions deal with the disquieting elements of everyday life and offer observations on the world. While drawing is at the centre of his practice, the artist also works across an extensive range of media including sculpture, large-scale installation, animation, painting, photography and music. David Shrigley works actively to try and appeal to audiences outside the gallery. One of the artist鈥檚 most notable recent works was a sculpture that was created on the basis of his drawings. 鈥楻eally Good鈥 was a larger than life, elongated thumb that was installed on Trafalgar Square鈥檚 Fourth Plinth from September 2016 to March 2018. It formed part of his wider practice of playing with the scale of objects and giving them curious proportions. Of the sculpture, Shrigley said: 鈥淚 made a drawing of an elongated thing that said everything is good.鈥 David Shrigley has also recently started working in filmmaking.
